However, they fail to realise that the change has become an internal part of todays business environment and there is no way to forfend the presence and implications of the change . Contrary to the above contemporary idea in the management development, a number of authors who believe that with the changing requirements in the organizations, the organizations have welcomed the phenomena of change and have moulded their organizational structure along with the management development. They also maintain that managers face the issues such as more work for less rewards as organizations re-invent themselves in instal to remain competitive and attain competitive advantage. Organizations do not survive without appropriately satisfying the needs of all stakeholders including managers. No organization prefers to increase its labour turnover cost under normal circumstances. In the following parts of this literature review, first, definition of management is provided and is followed by the definition of leadership. Subsequent to that, the critical rating of the management development has been included before the description of critical evaluation of the leadership deve lopment. A summary of literature review is provided after the critical evaluation of leadership development. Definition of Management Management is essentially a human social craft requiring the ability to interpret the thoughts and wants of others who could be employees, competitors, customers or whatever management is the facility to shape values, meanings and human commitments (Watson 1994, p.223). Moreover, management is responsible for others, maintaining and controlling processes and implementing policies as well. Definition of Leadership Defining leadership has been elusive and complex problem largely because he nature of leadership itself is indistinct (Daft & Lane 2008). Some have even stated that leadership is nothing more than a romantic myth based on false hopes and expectations that someone will come along with an utter ability to solve their issues and problems. However, Rost (1991) defines that leadership is an influence relationship among followers and leaders inten ding real changes that reflect their mutual objectives. Critical Evaluation of Management Development Historically, management theory and practice have been largely influenced by the classical approach of Taylors scientific management movement, Webers bureaucracy and Fayols administrative principles (Mighty and Ashton 2003). In these aspects, managers are assumed to be heroes making a great positive contribution to organizational effective and performance (Mintzberg 1973, 1975). However, particularly in the last quarter of the twentieth century, this perspective was seriously challenged. Pfeffer (1977) for example, contended that organizational outcomes were significantly attach or linked primarily to a range of external, contextual factors rather than the policies and actions of the organizational leaders. New challenges such as increased competition on a global level, constantly changing technological means along with the growth of information and knowledge age have largely infl uenced and challenged the traditional methods of managing the organizational

Christianity - Assignment ExampleChristianity, through the bible, defines anger as a infernal region of an attitude that is mental (Lester 85). Anger, as a sin, expresses exasperation, antagonism, resentment, indignation, and outrage. Anger is too an inducer of emotions, which are, however, not angry feelings. The pattern of thoughts, which caused the feeling to be produced, is what is referred to as vicious anger. Via the bible, Christianity defines a type of anger that is not of a sinful temperament and calls it righteous indignation. This anger does not beget emotion. This goes to show that anger is a sin when emotions are involved. The Christian bible utilizes two words from Greek to relate anger orge, which is referent to mental anger and thumos, which is referent to mental anger. It is a possibility to possess mental anger while at the same meter not showing any emotional response. Ephesians 431 says that ogre and thumos are bitterness related (Lester 85). As a sin, anger causes man to sin against his fellow men. It breeds self-righteousness, gossip, complaining, and maligning. Righteous indignation and anger are reactions of a mental nature to circumstances or events (Lester 86). When the reaction cannot be justified, it turns to irrationality, irritation, and exasperation. Anger of a sinful nature has several characteristics. Gal 519-21 lumps it with impunity, immorality, idolatry, enmities, strife, among others. Therefore, it is a sin from the nature of sin.

Analysis of the Cartesian Proof for the Existence of God - Essay ExampleAnalysis of the Cartesian Proof for the Existence of GodRene Descartes philosophic enterprise is best understood within the context of the influential philosophical school of keen-sightedism. To understand how Descartes came to offer a proof for Gods existence, it must be understood that his philosophical venture in the Meditations is in fact some sort of veiled theological treatise. In his letter to the Faculty of holiness of Paris, he writesI have always been of the opinion that the two questions respecting God and the Soul were the chief of those that ought to be determined by help of Philosophy sooner than Theology for although to us, the faithful, it be sufficient to hold as maters of faith, that the human soul does non perish with the body, and that God exists, it yet assuredly seems impossible ever to acquit infidels of the reality of any religion, or almost even any moral virtue, unless, first of al l, those two things be proved to them by natural reason. (Popkin 122).In difficult to establish what ought to be considered as the reliable foundation of ones beliefs, Descartes began his rational inquiry by doubting everything that can be doubted. It is only rational as per Descartes, to base all beliefs upon a foundation that cannot be doubted. Hence, he assumed that if he can arrive at that belief which can no longer be doubted, then he would have arrived at the only reliable foundation of knowledge. Material or physical foundations simply will not do, because they are not reliable.

Consider Two Contrasting Characters In The Play Essay Example for Free
Consider Two Contrasting Characters In The Play EssayConsider dickens contrasting characters in the play. How does the playw remedy convey their personalities and their attitudes to the situation in which they find themselves? The playwright of The Long, the Short and the Tall is Willis Hall and he wrote it in 1959. The play is adjust in the Malaysian jungle in 1942 during the Second World War. It is about a British scout patrol, which is caught in the unexpected japanese advance down(p) the Malaysian peninsula. It deals with men from all oer Britain, from different backgrounds and cultures, and their relationships with severally opposite. The main issue though, is whether the men atomic number 18 able to refine a nonher human being. It shows their reactions in tense and more or less unreal situations.World War Two lasted from 1939 to 1945. It was fought in two places in Europe against Germevery and in the Pacific against Japan. Britain and the USA started fighting agains t Japan because Japan bombed Pearl Harbour in December 1941, which had docked a whole fleet of American war ships. The British and the Americans didnt expect the Japanese to attack, so they were not able to defend themselves. From here Japan continued to expand into other countries. They quickly conquered South-East Asia. The next thing the Japanese did was to invade Singapore in Malaysia. Again the British were completely unprepared for the attack. All Singapores defences were facing into the sea, never expecting or believing that anybody would come down the peninsula, through the jungle, besides this is exactly what the Japanese did. Because no star in Singapore believed that they would be attacked from the land side, all the defences were on the ocean side, to protect against a marine attack. The Japanese were so prospering because they had had better training in jungle warfare. They wore light clothing, had light ammunition and made use of bicycles for transport. This meant tha t they could travel great distances in a relatively goldbrick time. There wasnt more than hope for the British soldiers, who had little or no training in jungle warfare, they had heavy clothing and ammunition and no desirable transport.Morale in the British army was very low. Most of the soldiers were conscripts who were very cynical about the ability of the generals of the army to direct the army in the right away and also because of the lack of proper training and equipment. This can be seen in the play in the way the characters talk of the radio not working. razzing duff equipment is how Johnstone describes the radio. To the British conscripts the Japanese army seemed invincible, with their incredibly patriotic soldiers who were prepared to die rather than surrender. The Japanese believed in the motto Death before dishonour. They seemed a completely fearless army because of this, which didnt do the morale of the British soldiers much good. The two contrasting characters I pudd le chosen to look at are Bamforth and Johnstone. I have chosen Bamforth because his character changes a great deal throughout the play and his point of view moves to a different angle and I have chosen Johnstone because his character is one of the few ones, which doesnt change much throughout the play.Private C. Bamforth is a conscript into the British army and has been posted over to the Far East to serve fight the Japanese. He is from London and is in the lowest possible rank in the army. His position is completely different from Johnstones. His broad(a) title is Corporal E. Johnstone. He is two above Bamforth in ranks and is part of the regular army and is not conscripted. This means that is attitude to the army is different. His attitude is much less cynical and he respects authority more, in terms of Mitchem. He is cynical in one part of the play where he becomes aggravate when the radio wont work. Damn duff equipment. The whole damn issues duff. But overall he is much less c ynical of the British armys capabilities. On the other side Bamforth is very cynical of the British army in the way he speaks of it. He apparently quotes one of the Generals, Bammo, my old son, the British armys in a desperate situation. The yellow perils about to descend on us Here he is joking about the state of the British army, but he on the face of it believes it, otherwise he wouldnt be saying it and it wouldnt be funny. Also he makes clear that he isnt prepared to be a hero, I wasnt meant to be a hero he states it clearly and decisively, which shows that he has no doubts about it.Bamforth enjoys making fun of others especially people who cant defend themselves very well similar Whitaker and people who are of a certain discipline such as Wales or Scotland. He tends to generalise about people of a certain area and call them derogatory names. You Scotch haggis, you Cardiff creep, Youre an ignorant Welsh Taff He is a very unpleasant character in the beginning and obviously re sents authrority Nit is what he says below his breath at Johnstone. Johnstone is also unpleasant in the way he threatens Bamforth, but as the person watching the play, with no k flatledge of how Bamforths character pull up stakes change, I found that I sympathised with Johnstone and felt glad that he was giving Bamforth what he deserved.Their initial reaction was also very similar, as it was Johnstone who grabbed the prisoner and logical one of the other men to fine-tune him with their bayonet and Bamforth was the only other soldier who felt able to kill him. He regarded the Japanese soldier as only as important as an animal. Its only the same as carving up a pig. The prisoner was very low in his touch sensationJohnstone has very little contact with the prisoner he only has direct contact with the prisoner when he has the telephone circuit with Bamforth over whether the prisoner should be allowed any cigarettes. He obviously has strong opinions on what should happen to the pri soner he thinks it is a bad finding of Mitchems to take the prisoner back as it is alike risky. He tries to argue with Mitchem that they should kill the prisoner right then, before it all got out of hand. Get rid of him. Right nowStrangely enough, it is Bamforth who befriends the prisoner and dialog to him and joke with him. He even begins to regard the prisoner as almost human. Hes almost human this one is. His opinion of the prisoner has risen from that of animal to almost human. This is because the prisoner showed him his photos of his family. He indicates that he also has a baby, this is probably why Bamforth begins to regard him with more respect. Next Bamforth offers the prisoner a cigarette, but Johnstone knocks the prisoners from his mouth. At once Bamforth demands an explanation from Johnstone. Here he is clearly defending the prisoners rights, but also I think that he argues with Johnstone just because he did something that infringed his rights.Later on when the argume nt about the prisoners cigarette case begins, the playwright cleverly makes Bamforth leave so that the argument can progress without anyone coming to the prisoners defence. When Bamforth returns the argument reaches a climax he immediately comes to the prisoners defence. He defends him verbally and helps the prisoner. He tells the others that he gave the prisoner the cigarettes. This may not have been true and I dont think that Johnstone really believed him. He is the one who asks to look at the case before it is returned to the prisoner and he starts another argument about the case. This time Bamforth does not claim to have given it to him, but turns the story back on Johnstone by making Whitaker tell the others how he has a locker full of Japanese souvenirs. He defends the prisoner all the way. This is signal that he has become really attached to the prisoner.By the end when they have to decide whether to kill the prisoner or not, Bamforth has become very attached to the prisoner. He physically stands in-between the prisoner and Johnstone, as can be seen from the stage directions. This is a clear piece of proof that he is now prepared physically protect the prisoner not just argue for him. Its him and me. This shows that he is saying that if they want to kill the prisoner, they will have to kill him too. Also he now expresses freely that he regard the prisoner highly. Hes a man, showing that the prisoner has earned a lot of Bamforths respect. Johnstone on the other hand is the one who is exhausting to kill the prisoner. Johnstone still thinks they should kill the prisoner and his opinion of him has not risen either, Its a bloody nip From this we can see that he regards him as really low because he says it instead of he and uses the derogatory term of bloody nip.He orders Bamforth out of the way, but he will not move and appeals to each of the men in turn to help him. But each one turns him down, he appeals to Macleish last of all, probably hoping that at le ast he was going to help him because his brother could be a POW too. But even he does not help Bamforth. He is obviously desperate because he turns to sheer trivia when each of the men turn him down. I hope they carve your brother up. Get that? I hope they carve your bloody brother up In the end the decision is made for them as Whitaker shoots the prisoner as he rises, during the fight between Bamforth and Johnstone. The play offers no obvious answers to who was right or what they should have done. It was quite ironic how it is Johnstone left alive at the end who surrenders because it is was he who was prepared to kill their POW, having said this he did not have much natural selection in the matter. Personally I really dont know what they should have done because it was such a hard decision, but if I had to make a decision I would probably have tried to take the prisoner back to camp rather than hanging around arguing about it.If they had done that they mightiness have had a chanc e of getting back alive, but as it was they had no hope. With the benefit of hindsight, I can see that Johnstone was right, when he said that they should kill the prisoner in the beginning, when none of them were attached to the prisoner and there would have been no problem. However I dont think I would be able to kill someone in that situation even if I was ordered to.

And it focuses on all the age group of people that is children, youngsters and matured customers and complete with marketing strategies thatinfluence on all the targeted consumers.NEW PRODUCT INNOVATIONS With time to time Coca cola comes with impertinently product innovation that withdraws it custom er towards itself again and again. These days people are becoming more and more health conscious, so coca cola has came up with non carbonate drinks and fruit juice products for exampleDiet coke, juices etc.BOTTELING SYSTEM Bottling system is one of the most significant advantages that the company enjoys, among its other competitors and that allows infinite growth all over the the world. Coca cola has given rights to the bottlers companies around the globe to make and sell its products.Marketing strategyMarketing involves getting the right product to the right place, at the right time, at the right price and with the most suitable promotional activity. Coca-Cola has always been successful in creating the most appropriate marketing mix.Since the beginning, coca cola has built its business using a universal strategy based on three timeless principlesAcceptability- through effective marketing, the company ensurs that coca cola brands are an inviolate part of consumers daily lives, mak ing coca cola the preferred beverage everywhereAffordability- Coca-Cola guarantees that it offers the best price in terms of value for money availability Making sure that Coca-Cola brands are available anywhere, where people want refreshment.Coca-Cola has created well organized and extensive global distribution network guaranteeing the ubiquity of its products. (Ubiquity means ability to appear to be present everywhere at once.) Its approach is founded on the belief that coca cola must try to quench the thirst of everyone in the world -of all 5.6 billion peopleThe Company operates a worldwide franchise system supplying syrups and concentrates to over 1,200 bottling operations, (there are more than 350 in the US alone) which thus include local companies and suppliers in the 200 countries in which coca cola is sold. The bottling companies distribute the worlds favourite brand using the most sophisticated engine room and distribution networks that is available. The Company supports it s international bottler network with sophisticated marketing programs seeking to guarantee that the companys brands are available where anyone is seeking refreshment. Coca Colas bottling system is the largest and most widespread production and distribution network in the globe.Pricing StrategyCoca cola has a high market share, competitor pressure has forced customer sensitivity to price to be fairly high, sales volume is of course high and profit margin is fairly low as the Coca-Cola products are card-playing moving consumer goods. This points to penetration strategy. acumen pricing means the setting of lower rather than high prices to achieve potentially dominant share in the market. This can only be done when the demand for the product is believed to be highly flexible, basically demand is price-sensitive and either a new consumers will be involved, or existing consumers will buy more of the product because of a low price.A good penetration strategy may lead to large step of sal es and large share in the market. The strategy may also promote complimentary products. The main product may be priced low to attract sales, customers are then sold accessories. This strategy will work nicely in promoting re-use of Coca-Cola packaging via a beverage holder of vessel which is purchased separately and refilled. The potential disadvantage of bringing in this strategy is the likelihood of competitors doing the same by reducing their prices, therefore damaging any advantage of the reduced price.Price Penetration is most appropriate in industries where standardization is important. The product that achieves high market penetration often becomes the industry standard, in regards to the new Coca-Cola beverage vessel, it is trying to create a standardization of how consumers use the beverage container. Coca-Cola are likely to receive stiff competition soon after introduction of the product, although the product that achieves high market penetration often becomes the industry s tandard and other products, even superior products, become marginalized. Standards carry heavy momentum.Global brandingThe ability to engage in global branding is a key advantage to any large company. Coca-Cola is fortunate in that it possesses a number of instantly recognisable icons which go beyond the familiar taste of its product. In particular the Company benefits from its registered trade mark, the characteristic classic shapes of its bottles and the highly familiar red and white Coca-Cola canNo story of Coca-Cola would be complete without the Coca-Cola glass bottle. The design for the bottle was created in the early 1900s when the bottlers of Coca-Cola faced constant threat of imitation of both product and packaging. We need a Coca-Cola bottle which a person will recognise as a Coca-Cola bottle even if he feels it in the dark. The bottle should be so mold that, even if broken, a person could tell at a glance what it was. (The Coca-Cola bottle design brief in 1915.)Today the glass bottle is seen as an icon. An icon is a symbol or image which directly refers to a specific entity or moment. Acclaimed as one of the most famous packages, the Coca-Cola glass bottle was re-launched in 1997 in a unique new format for Britain at The Coca-Cola Bottle exhibition at Londons Design Museum.Coca-Cola also produces the worlds most popular flavoured soft drinks Fanta and Sprite, as well as diet Coke and Cherry Coke. These products can be mass marketed across the globe using standard promotions and advertising campaigns. This dramatically cuts promotional and advertising costs as these are distributed over a large market area.As Coca-Cola is the flagship of the Company, more money is spent advertising and promoting Coke than any of the other drinks. In the United Kingdom, Coca-Cola advertises all year round.Sponsorship and brand recognitionThe relationship Coca-Cola has with sport seeks to advance the development of sport overall. It aims to make gaudy competitions pos sible by supporting events for the participation and pleasure of athletes and spectators.Coca-Cola has a long history of sports sponsorship including the Olympic Games, football, tennis and Special Olympics. Coca-Cola has been involved with the Olympic Games since 1928. It has been sponsoring the football population Cup since 1978 and is actively involved with the Wimbledon Championships. Coca-Colas support is at all levels. In 1993, Coca-Cola became sponsors of The Coca-Cola Cup in England, with Scotland following in 1994. Support is also provided for the English National Football Team and the Scottish International Youth Teams with a grass roots programme for mini-soccer with the Football Association Development Programme. Through sponsorship in leisure activities, Coca-Cola is able to combine the promise of refreshment with a sense of thrill, celebration and passion together with the universal necessity of a healthy, active lifestyle.Coca-Cola is a global product and can largely be marketed using a global approach, but the Company also engages in national and regional marketing strategies which enlarge a recognition of local and cultural differences. The first advertisement of Coca-Cola was an oil-cloth sign containing the phrase Delicious and Refreshing Now throughout the world, you can see Coca-Cola publicize in the cinema, on TV, on posters and in magazines. The Coca-Cola Companys overall advertising strategy is summed up by the phrase Think Global, Act Local Some campaigns are designed for worldwide use and others developed for individual markets. In some cases a product is developed for local consumption, such as Lilt in Great Britain and Ireland. The Always Coca-Cola campaign theme has been used worldwide to reinforce the universality of the brand which is always there. However, different advertisements are also made for each market. This enables Coca-Cola to choose the most relevant advertisements for its consumers and to choose how and when they sho uld appear. In Great Britain, for example, where football is a national passion, Eat Football, Sleep Football, Drink Coca-Cola is a massively successful advertising campaign reinforcing the link between Coca-Cola and football while continuing the brands support of the game and fans.SponsorshipSportsCoca Cola sponsored the english football league in the beginning of the 2004-05 season (beginning August 2004) to the start of 2010/11 season, when the Football League found a new sponsor in NPower.Along with this, coca cola sponsored the coca-cola Football Camp, otherwise known as a soccer camp, that took place in South Africa, Pretoria during the 2010 FIFA World Cup, during which hundreds of teenagers from around the world were able to come together and share their passion for the game, partly due to Best Buys efforts through their program.Other major sponsorships include NASCAR, the NBA, the PGA Tour, NCAA Championships, the Olympic Games, the NRL, the FIFA World Cups and the UEFA Euro.
